Campspurrier.com: Football goes online
If you know a youngster who’s a big fan of USC football, or just football in general, aim them online to campspurrier.com.
It’s a slick site put together by PlayAction Online Kids Camps that uses short videos and games to teach kids the fundamentals of football and the basics of good health. And each step along the way, USC Coach Steve Spurrier pops up in a video screen to provide encouragement.
The videos cover everything from what is a safety to how to take a shotgun snap. The arcade-style games are mostly silly fun, though they sneak in a few football facts.
It’s suitable for any child old enough to handle a computer mouse, but the target audience seems to be the 5 to 8 age range.
A child could spend several hours working through the videos and games in the free portion of campspurrier.com. The folks behind the Web site hope kids will long for more and beg parents to pay the $6.95 a month or $59.95 a year to become MVP members that graduate to additional videos and games.
If you’re not a Spurrier fan, you can try camppete.com, campswitzer.com or campweis.com and get encouragement from Southern Cal Coach Pete Carroll, former Dallas Cowboys and Oklahoma Sooners Coach Barry Switzer or Notre Dame Coach Charlie Weis.
