Is this what you call a ‘nursing lounge’?

Is this what you call a ‘nursing lounge’?

A few weeks ago, I participated in a drive-by television interview (less than one minute) with South Carolina ETV about breastfeeding moms returning to work. While I was discussing the importance of workplaces having dedicated, private and sanitary spaces for breastfeeding moms to pump, I posed an unplanned, hypothetical and visual question:

“How would you like it if your lunch was prepared in a public restroom?”

I was referring to organizations that claim to be friendly to breastfeeding moms because they grant moms a few, sporadic minutes throughout the day to go to their public restrooms to relieve their engorged breasts of the sustenance from which many of our newly born exist.

Consider Exhibit A: the picture with this post (below). Though it looks like I performed some Photoshop magic to create this “nursing lounge” (notice the sign on the stall on the right), I promise that I saw this poor excuse for mother-friendliness while traveling through one of our nation’s busiest airports, which will go nameless to protect the guilty . . . though I will give you one hint. It’s named after a U.S. president elected within my lifetime. OK, here’s another hint. His wife had something to do with those green-and-white “Just Say No” T-shirts we adored and cherished so much back in the ‘80s when we vowed to live lives free from substance abuse.

I rarely use the camera feature on my phone, but this was certainly a Kodak moment. They say, “A picture is worth a thousand words.” Here are my five:

Disgusting!

Gross!
