Apparently there will be some bowl played on New Year’s Eve in Atlanta featuring an ACC team.
I have gleened this information from the almost nonstop glut of press released, e-mails, gift certificates and other stuff that officials from the Chick-fil-A bowl have been passing out lately. There might have also been an offer to marry the first-born daughters of every bowl scout, but I’m not sure.
Normally at this time of year you see more bowl scouts in press boxes, and occasionally they come around handing out their business cards. But the Chick-fil-A people have been relentless. You could feed an eastern European country with the coupons they’ve passed out the past two Gamecock games.
Supposedly they’ve been this way with nearly every SEC school, at least the ones you would think were candidates to play in that bowl, South Carolina among them.
Problem is, the bowl chairman, in his bowl selection blog (yes, he has one), made it pretty clear they wanted an eight-win team from the SEC. And if the Gamecocks don’t win here today, well …
