It’s a wrap — for the blog at least. The game is still going on (under 5 to play). But a bunch of Clemson fans are heading to the exit, and it’s time for me to head down for the postgame interviews.
Again, what a difference a year makes. This effort by USC today (and their effort down the stretch this year) was hardly similar to the debacle of last season. This is a different team on its way to a better season’s end than last year. The defense brought the energy today and the offense was very capable.
The Gamecocks lead 27-10 and are in a position to take this year’s Palmetto Bowl and keep itself in content for a Chick-fil-A bowl bid. No matter the destination it’s safe to say fans will be much more willing to make the trip with the team this year.
Keep an eye on GoGamecocks.com tonight as we will update things all night.
Thanks, and take care.

Touchdown! Excellent, Gamecock players executed well, finally. Hat’s off to them, they deserve a lot of praise, especially on defense.

I assume all the naysayers (sorry, “fans”) wanting to run Spurrier and co. out of town are taking a break today?

Gamecocks executed and “finished,” finally. But offense was too conservative for much of 2H.
It’s now time for the typical boneheaded, juvenile gloating and “Clemson stinks”-like comments to end. If you want to be champions, you have to act like champions. The Gamecock fans need to show some humility and act like they’ve been here before (albeit seldom). Clemson is a very good football team and all football fans in SC should be proud and supportive of both teams. Not to mention, if the Gamecocks ever do get to a point where they are national championship contenders, you want every team you play to win all their other games so that your strength-of-schedule factor helps with the polling and BCS formula. Plus, if both teams are good, it attracts national attention and quality recruits.

To all of the Spurrier Haters, SHUTUP!

Nice spin SRW; let me guess, no Clemson fan has ever “gloated” over their win in this series. Please give me a “high horse” break and take the loss like a man.

SRW, You must live in a vacuum…..conservative in the 2nd half? It’s called running the clock when you have a big lead. This is a Gamecock post…..don’t give me that support Clemons crap…..it suits me just fine for them to be 0-11 every year coming into our game. If we’re in the running for the National Championship, I doubt seriously beating Clemons, no matter their record, will make a diffference. Go Gamecocks!!!

…and one point: While it is great to inject friendly, good-natured ribbing into the rivalry, making it that much richer, if both the Gamecocks and Tigers were to evolve into elite teams, then the rivalry might actually ascend to the level nationally that most SC fans view it locally. It is not widely viewed as a marquee rivalry in the game, possibly because at least one team is usually substandard. It would naturally elevate itself if both teams were national contenders.

DO WE NOW WAIT AND SEE ABOUT OUR BOWL GAME?
For a couple minutes in the 1st half there I was singin’ ’swing low sweet chariot;’ untile the Gamecocks made certain with no uncertain terms, that this game was theirs to win.
Does this mean that there’s a BOWL in their immediate future? Do we get the Outback Bowl, or are we at least thankful to get the Las Vegas Bowl (does the Vegas Bowl take an SEC team anyway)? Either way, whether I’ve got to treck out to Tampa or even Vegas, I’m there. Congratulations Gamecocks, I know I share the same feeling; from now until next August, I can keep my head up high as we came out of this year with a respectable winning season after all.
Now lets go WIN our BOWL GAME!

and I agree with SRW, we ‘Finished’ as you stated correctly; the Gamecocks ‘finished.’
I’m hoping that maybe next year we can get some good recruits to beat that wild second half of a crazy game schedule; maybe Spurrier should consider getting some players from out West, so we can defeat Tenn, Florida, and of course Georgia.

You know, I was thinking: the Gamecocks ABSOLUTELY NEED a week off BYE week in the MIDDLE of their schedule; not at the very end before Clemson; what’s that all about? Where’s the front Gamecock office on that? We need to PETITION to get a BYE week before Tenn!
The SEC needs to give us a chance to Win the division too; they might not think we can, but we can’t give up; this win against Clemson puts this ‘09 season in a Winning catergory; for the present, and going forward into the ‘10 season.

SRW that has a lot of truth to it. But the tater fans need to practice what they preach. If you run off at the mouth and find out you are wrong…Well, it’s time to eat a little crow. Better team won today. Looks like we might would’ve been ACC champs were we to be in that so called conference.

The reporters make the Cocks look like star material but who is going to the bowl?
Give Clemson their dues, they are better. The media won’t give them a positive without a negative end .

I appreciate what SRW is trying to say and I agree to some extent, but I want to make a very different point. Frankly, I am so glad Gamecock Nation can hang our hats on this one for a year. Not only because it shuts up the normally gloating Clemson fans, but because it creates a wonderful beginning to what should be a marvelous run for the Gamecocks. Clemson is the Atlantic Division champion in the ACC and we beat them like a drum today, or as Lou used to say, like yard dogs. And my main point is this: take note sports fans, this is the quality team that Steve Spurrier and his coaches have recruited. The future is so bright we might have to wear sunglasses. Time to party folks, the future has arrived.
