Axon shares his story

You never know what’s going to pop up on the blog.

I was going through some of the recent posts, when I found the following from Ben Axon. He wrote it a couple of days ago on a blog thread I started in May following his marijuana arrest, so I doubt many, if any, of you saw it.

I figured I’d re-post it here in its entirety, unedited.

His sister also posted around the same time. And based on their email addresses, I don’t doubt the authenticity of either.

Anyway, thought all of you would be interested to read Axon’s version of the events and his background. Sounds like he’s gone through a lot. It will be interesting to meet him and hear about his upbringing in more detail.

Click here for the link to the original blog thread, then scroll to the bottom of the page. Axon’s is the last entry on the page.

Ben, I’ll be the first to admit that when this story broke I was very skeptical of you as a prospective student athlete at Carolina. As some idiot tiger fan already said things looked bad when the police reported that you claimed 23 bags of mj were yours…
However, now that the entire story has come out it makes your blogs seem very heartfelt and genuine. I think many of us should reflect on our own youthful escapades (myself included) and think about how things may have been different if we were big time college football prospects rather than ordinary students.
Along with Cory Boyd I think you should reach out to your captain Eric Norwood. Here’s a guy who didn’t care about academics at all coming out of high school. Now he’s on track to graduate in 3 1/2 years…and just for fun he’ll almost certainly be playing on Sundays next year.
As many before me have stated, there are many fine opportunities before you now. Embrace them, become a man you can be proud of, and Gamecock Nation will embrace you as well.
    Best wishes.

    Is this a joke?

His Illiterate rant was not only the workings of a 6th grade education, but I swear I recognize some of that from a two bit gangsta rap song.

He is a thug. He can play football, but he is a thug nonetheless…so he will be worshipped and adored by fat white men, whose only activity is drinking beer, watching TV and ignoring their wives and sons in favor of whatever sports is on cable. Excuses will be made for him as the college football crowd will adore him…till in the end his playing days are over and he is spat out like yesterday’s gum. And back to the projects he will go. Ill-educated, ill-informed, and jaundiced by his abnormal life in the spotlight.

He would be better off by dropping football and joining the Navy. At least there he would have a chance at an honorable life.

From one graduate of PTI to another…

Like Joe said, we all get a second chance somewhere or another. Anyone who has a heart will hope that Ben makes the best out of this one. It would also be foolish to expect perfection – especially from an 18 or 19 year old. There will doubtlessly be more bumps in the road. Hopefully USC will have the right supports for Ben and all his teammates.

…also, I spent 8 years in the Navy, thank you. Ben would be better off using his scholly to USC at full advantage and get a meaningful education while he’s playing football. Nursing (and any other health care profession) is a great idea right now… don’t have to worry about layoffs.

  6. cockychuck 8 August 2009 at 11:39 pm #

    …of course that’s just in case…

  7. cockychuck 8 August 2009 at 11:39 pm #

Question for Ben… when are we gonna see you at practice?

Funny how Corey Boyd is now an “all time fan favorite,” but y’all wanted to lynch him when he couldn’t convert on a third and two in ’07 against that little ole ACC caliber defense. Idiots. Good luck, Ben, you’re gonna’ need it.

  9. tatersluvfriedchikin 9 August 2009 at 12:18 am #

or was it a fourth and one. I can’t remember?

  10. JT 9 August 2009 at 12:23 am #

so cw casts judgement not only on ben but also college football fans and the NCAA and use of the black athlete. your comments come across as racist, elitist, self righteous, myopic, etcetera, etcetera.

i realize it is possible that you only seem that way from a few comments you chose to write. hopefully, it’s not the case.

Wow, you taters are nasty. No wonder Ben chose USC. Keep up the love fest, maybe we can get some more recruits from ya!

From who’s perspective? Yours? Perhaps you’re a little biased, Klimpson fan. I don’t recall that being the sentiment at all. However I do remember an interview with Cory in the Denver Broncos locker room with a prominent Gamecock logo tatooed on his left shoulder.
And seriously…’lynch’? Try to choose your words more carefully, you redneck.
Thanks for sending more recruits our way, tater.

Glad to hear USC made the correct decision. There is no way Cheech Axon was needed on the football team. I am proud of the faculty for standing up and keeping the drug dealer out of USC and off the football team.

Way to go fans for expressing your frustration at the football team for even considering the Cheech after the drug bust.

Go Gamecocks, finally with out Cheech.

It seems that if you’re going to post on a website and know that hundreds (or thousands?) of people will read your post that you just might have someone read over it. Someone who knows the basics of the English language. My second grade daughter could find most of the mistakes in that post. If you write like that and maybe don’t even know that it’s so poor, it could be a major sign that you’re just not cut out for college.

I don’t know Ben Axon, but based on the post he made I would say he doesn’t belong in ANY college.

Ben deserves a second chance. all kids deserve a seond chance. not thirds and fourths, there’s got to be a line, but one mistake should not ruin this young man’s future (and come on people, it was some marijuana; it’s not like he was on the corner slingin’ rock). i hope for the best for him….

y’all need to chill about his writing too. it’s a freaking online post. nobody cares about punctuation in these things. i don’t even capitalize things when i post online. you gonna call me stupid because of it? i can edit circles around any of you, and you don’t even know that by seeing what i’ve typed because this is an online post and doesn’t matter. the kid wasn’t writing a paper for a grade. don’t be so petty.
