Orange in the end zone
Just drove by Williams-Brice. Reports/message board posts of the Clemson-themed vandalism have been greatly exaggerated.
Unlike last year, the vandals did not paint the weight room windows. They did manage to get inside the stadium, and use orange spray-paint in the south end zone.
Equipment manager Chris Matlock said you can barely notice the damage.
The stadium’s locked up pretty tight now, btw. Unless you want to scale an 8-foot fence in broad daylight, you’re not getting on the field.
Here’s the brief I wrote for Thursday’s paper:
Whenever Clemson scores a touchdown, Tigers play-by-play announcer Pete Yanity makes his signature call, “There’s orange in the end zone.”
A week and a half before the Clemson-USC game, vandals painted orange in the south end zone at Williams-Brice Stadium overnight Tuesday.
USC equipment manager Chris Matlock saw an aerosol can and “a little orange paint” on the field Wednesday morning. Matlock said the damage was minimal and would not require workers to re-sod the grass before the rivalry game Nov. 28.
Matlock said the graffiti message, which included a ‘C,’ appeared to be incomplete.
“It looked like either they got caught or ran out of paint,” Matlock said.
The stadium vandalism has become a destructive part of the rivalry. Last year vandals sprayed orange paint on the weight room windows at Williams-Brice.
Matlock hopes officials can identify the culprits through surveillance videos.

Sorry, one of our hanger-ons did something stupid or maybe it was some of that baby puke Vol orange. Now that is a program!!!
BlackMagic for your next trick please make yourself disappear.
They didn’t get caught. They didn’t run out of paint. They just don’t know how to spell. “C … uh …”
cleminoles…what do you expect?
Looks like some very good bulletin board material for our team. Go GAMECOCKS!
Anyone who denies these were USC boneheads trying to make it look like Clemson fans is an idiot.
Yeah tatersluvfriedchicken, there isn’t a single Clemson fan in Columbia. The notion that this MIGHT POTENTIALLY be a Clemson fan is so ridiculous that to think such would make you an idiot.
Aaaaand I’m already tired of this forum.
Matlock said the graffiti message, which included a ‘C,’ appeared to be incomplete.
Had to be a Clem Tech fan. They could not spell “C.”
Of course it was clemson:
“Matlock said the graffiti message, which included a ‘C,’ appeared to be incomplete.”
Incomplete basic skills.
I’m glad they didn’t do too much damage. Every school has a few idiot fans.
I think its funny how when Clemson or its classless fans do something bad its “part of the rivalry”. When have USC fans vandalized Clemson? Why don’t you just call it what it is? They vandalize our stadium almost every year. Same thing with the fight a few years back. Nobody mentioned that it was started by the Clemson player shoving our QB’s head into the turf after the play.
My guess is that they painted the “C,” then went back home to look up the next letter they were going for.
The poor vandals had problems with the English language.
I can’t wait till I smash that Rock w/a sledgehammer…just when they aren’t looking. I will do it.
Anybody ever notice that BM84 is the first one to reply to every one of Joe Person’s posts? Hmmm….
If some of our redneck Clemson fans did this, I sincerely apologize for them. Totally disrespectful no matter who your rival is or what history has transpired. What has been played out on the field in the Clemson Carolina rivalry gives us enough bragging rights. If they were going to pull a prank, they should have just cut the locks off the doors of the athletic office. The Gamecock players would have that place cleaned out in no time. They’ve done it before.
actually, they all got credit hours for “Art History” at clemsux for this…
Can you say another 6 and 6 season? Give Spurrier an extension!
tth2001, no, no USC inbreds have ever vandalized Clemson. Except for the ones who took a hammer and chipped a piece from Howard’s Rock a few years ago, but I guess that doesn’t count. And the fight was started when the USC thugs went all the way to the goalpost at the bottom of the hill before the game, trying to incite something. Don’t forget they got what they deserved on the field, another in a long line of asswhippings. Cry your chicken tears somewhere else, moron. You want to talk about lack of class, look at USCVD’s post above. what about the USC players response to their punishment for the fight, how classy was that? Did they get to keep the laptops? And Itia, there are plenty of Clemson fans in Columbia, but the percentage of those fans who would be stupid enough to do that is infinitely small compared to all the inbred redneck chicken fans running around. Take a good look around at the bozos in garnet and black on the 28th. You couldn’t find that many greasy, chain smoking, caked on cheap makeup, toothless puking drunks at a Miss State, alabama, Auburn, Tennessee home game combined. This forum is tired of you.
Yeah, USuC fans have never vandalized Clemson’s stadium. I guess you never heard of the idiots that tried to steal Howard’s Rock and broke part of it off a few years back. They had to add a case to keep it in and now guard it round the clock the week of the USuC game.
Love all the comments about Clem Tech and how stupid Clemson fans are too. Obviously you have never tried to do a fact based comparison of the two schools. If you had you would realize how much more difficult the entrance requirements for Clemson are.
TLFC,
If that’s the way you feel about USC fans, that’s cool and the gang. The better question is, if you think we’re bozos and you think we suck, why are you and others like BM84 spending your days commenting on USC articles. I’m sure you are important (in your own mind), but it sure looks different by your posts on here. BTW, our stadium is vandilized on a yearly basis by your fans, and I know that you can’t say that about Death Valley. By the way, when is the ACC going to quit playing their games on Friday nights with all the other high school leagues?
tthloverofcock, did you not get the memo from the other loversofcock, that you are supposed to ignore me, pretend you don’t read my silly post when you see my name? You are just suppose to sit there and fume, knowing what I say is usually true, and to reply only makes you look stupider. But, admittedly, sometimes I slip a laugher in there, something I know COULD be disputed, just to stroke my ego, let me know you are paying attention. Thanks for bobbing my cork. Sure, there are some dufus Clemson fans, and some of them could be responsible, (but not likely). But you people bring the ridicule on yourselves, strutting around poking your chicken chest out, about NOTHING. You like to make cute comments about rednecks and inbred fans of Clemson, when you know there is a MUCH higher percentage of idiotic morons who couldn’t spell university if their life depended on it without help, who claim to be USC fans. Look around next year at every home game. Isn’t that a sad site in garnet and black? Leather skinned, tanning bed abusing, chain smoking floozies with a month’s worth of makeup on, sounding like Brad Childress when they hack and holler,”Go cocks.” And the cross-eyed-drunk, slobbering “businessmen” chasing them around trying to cop a feel, when they aren’t stumbling or puking. Anyway, you are mistaking your stadium being vandalized by our fans, and you team being violated by our team. That DOES happen almost every year. So be sure to hang around long enough in the second half on the 28th to hear the ACC chant, tell me what you think about upstate high school football, then. Pathetic loser.
TLFC, Are you serious? Really, are you just stoking fires or are you serious? I am a Gamecock fan, but I have been to many games all over the south. These “Gamecock fans” you describe are at EVERY game I’ve been to. Football fans come in all shapes, sizes, and income ranges. Next time you’re in Death Valley, take off your rose colored glasses, and pay attention. “Those fans” are there too. As for the vandalism, it is more likely it was a Clemson fan than Carolina, and these types of things happen annually on both sides. Stop implying it goes one way. If you think Clemson fans never would lower themselves to that level, you are delusional. Also, I have been a Carolina fan for 20+ years, and I can honestly say that I have never checked a Clemson website. Your constant comments are proving that you have nothing better to do that surf the internet and aggravate people. As if in today’s American society, we don’t have enough to deal with and worry about. You have to come on a Carolina website, and aggravate us when we are trying to read about OUR team, and have OUR escape. Get a hobby, or a job, and let us be optimistic about our team without criticism from the peanut-head gallery.
TLFC, people like you deserve cancer…Roll Tide.
foolio gets my vote.
TLFC, I would choose Byrnes High School in a match against Clemson. I really would. Both sides have idiot fans, and trust me, I’ve seen my fare share of girls with “a months worth of make-up” in the upstate as well.
All you people, Clemson and Carolina, need to get a life.
It’s spelled KLEMPSUN…..With a “K”…..These people were idiots!!
GO TIGERS EAT MORE CHICKEN
