Report: Murray State eyeing Beamer

USC recruiting coordinator Shane Beamer remains a candidate for the head coaching vacancy at Murray State, according to a report from an online news service.

Beamer is one of several candidates mentioned in a story posted today on Examiner.com, an Internet news consortium that has a writer who covers the FCS program.

Beamer, 32, is one of 34 nominees for the Broyles Award, given annually to the nation’s top assistant coach. Beamer also is the Gamecocks’ special teams coordinator and coaches the team’s strong safeties and spurs.

Beamer told The State last month he had not had any contact with Murray State, the Kentucky school where his father, Virginia Tech coach Frank Beamer, worked before taking the job at Virginia Tech.

Beamer also said it would be “highly flattering” if he were approached by Murray State, which fired Matt Griffin after an 11-33 tenure at the school.

Besides Frank Beamer, Ole Miss’ Houston Nutt also made the jump from Murray State to Division I-A (FBS). Nutt went from Murray State to Boise State after the 1996 season.

Uh…this could wind up being true, but examiner.com has little, if any credibility..about like wikipedia, so why are you quoting it, Joe?

Good for him…and great for the rest of us if he gets the heck outta here. I’m sick of the stupid penalty after stupid penalty each week on special teams. Beamerball Jr was terrible in my opinion!

It would be great if Beamer got that job because our special teams are terrible, we won’t lose anything with recruiting if he leaves. On a side note, Ron Morris is an idiot. He writes the dumbest most ignorant columns I have ever seen in my life. The flex bone works in the ACC because the ACC is a complete joke. In the SEC this kind of offense would get absolutely abused, just like what happened against UGA. I am personally going to boycott all of Morris’ articles from now on.

randzilla, congrats on joining the rest of us with IQs above 100 who boycotted moRon Morris’ inane articles LONG ago.

Beamer’s a good coach, a gifted recruited and, imho, will be a head coach before he’s 40.

The writer who posted that link on Examiner.com is a Murray State graduate and former sports editor in that area. I think his information is spot-on: That is, Murray State is interested in talking to Beamer.

Will it lead to an offer, and would Beamer take it? We’ll see.

Would sure hate to lose him but could not blame him for taking a head coaching position either. Wish him well either way.

As much as I would hate to see him go, I think it would only benefit our program if we developed a reputation of a being a school where top assistants go if they want to eventually become a head coach.

We need Beamer to stay. The problem with special teams is a reflection of the problem we have on Offense and Defense, talent depth is shallow. Only the best can stop Clemson’s Spiller and Georgia’s Boykin. We need more talent….

They always deny interest or contact. Blah, blah, blah………..

This is not the time to lose a blue blood # 1 recruiter. He sells USC the best…he got 2 of the best freshman players this season and more on the way.
