Spurrier: Ten signees could play next season
Couple quick hits from USC’s Signing Day presser:
–Steve Spurrier said Marcus Lattimore has the type of family that he enjoys recruiting. When Spurrier and his assistants left their in-home visit with Lattimore in last Saturday’s icy conditions, Lattimore’s mom, Yolanda Smith, called to make sure they’d arrived home safe.
–For the record, Spurrier said Graham’s cha-cha slide with Smith was better than his.
–Spurrier said as many as 10 players from the 24-player class could see action as freshmen. He mentioned four offensive linemen: A.J. Cann, Ronald Patrick, Tramell Williams and Du’Von Millsap.
–Spurrier said he would be remiss if he did not praise former offensive line coach Eric Wolford for his role in helping land the six offensive line signees. Wolford left before the bowl game to become Youngstown State’s head coach.
–Recruiting coordinator Shane Beamer treaded lightly on the topic of Eric Mack, the Calhoun County O-lineman who de-committed from USC and signed with Auburn.
“We got the six we wanted,” Beamer said.
–Beamer said WR Javon Bell, whom the Gamecocks snagged after losing Sean Tapley, is one of a couple signees who has some work to do to qualify.
–Beamer and the Gamecocks were efficient in their recruiting: USC brought in 32 recruits for official visits, 22 of whom signed.

Beamer will be a great recruiter and coach. I’ll
take him over Reaves anyday. All the high school
coaches I talk to love him. That’s what it takes
to recruit well year after year. Treat the high
school coaches special like they do at Georgia
where they have there own entrance in the stadium
at Athens. Thank you Stephen Davis for helping us
land Lattimore. You were finally true to your home
state.

eno, I totally agree with your post about Beamer. We’re lucky to have Shane on our staff.
But, I wonder if there’s a gentleman’s agreement between Shane and his pop about recruiting in Virginia. It is a hotbed of high school talent and it seems we don’t even try to work that state.
I like Coach Beamer’s understated comment about Mack.
We didn’t want you Eric, and we’ll enjoy whipping you the next two years. But of course, you might not even be in shape enough over that time to even see the field against Carolina.
1.Has Justin Parker qualified(i.e.SAT score)? If he hasn’t,it’s much ado about nothing.2.Who can play center next year? 3.Except for Millsap, these new guys are under sized for the SEC(maybe in a couple of years),so USC has to play the same guys from last year who did not produce or were not good enough to replace those who did play/what’s the difference? I’m confused about the hype.
cocklovingdr, do you even read your comments as you type them. Are really that oblivious to how stupid your statements make you sound. Sure you didn’t Mack, just like YOU wouldn’t have wanted Lattimore if he had chosen Auburn. Like Clemson didn’t want the guy who went to Cal with his half brother transfering from Buffalo. You are an embarassment to even USC fans.
Nice of SS to compliment Eric Wolford. HOpe the new guy can as SS says “coach’em up” to become super players.
TATER, Do you read what you type before you post it? You left out words and your grammar is terrible. Pretty good for a tater though I must admit. As for Mack, he is a Mt. Cody type. We would be foolish to assume that he couldn’t turn into an awesome lineman. With him and Mt Cody on opposite sides of the ball,we may have to rename the Iron bowl the Blubber Bowl.
They better be all that and a bag a chips if SS expects to compete in the SEC next season. Time is ticking and Ole Father Time is running out. 2010 or it’s lights out.
Way to go on the Hampton deal. You are a mega reporter. Thank god in less than two years you guys will be a after thought
Why does everyone insist that 2010 is “The Year” rather than 2011? Appears to me that, although 2010 should be a good year, 2011 should be “the bomb” with Garcia being as seasoned as he will get and Alshon, Gurley, Lattimore (an extra year of maturing), Gilmore, etc…..? This young rookie Ofensive Line will be a little older, stronger, and wiser. Think about it.
Why did I get booted off “GoGamecocks” for speaking my mind? Hey, we still need a QB to get this going. Cam you remember even one time Garcia made a play out of nothing? All I can remember is a 5-yd run he made last season for a first down when he side stepped Florida’s Spikes. Not much of a highlight film.
1-0 against the tiggers. 34-17..yabba Daba DOO!
Alum 79…How about that first down run that Garcia made against Kentucky? He gets stopped short on that play and we probably don’t beat the cats last year. He made many great throws to Jeffery, Moe Brown, and other receivers this year. His TD to Int. ratio was lower than last year and he made good decisions most of the time that helped us win and did not cause us to lose. Does he need to get better? YES! Is there room for improvement? YES! Considering our O Line experience and depth and the fact that he was running for his life many time, I have to call him a success!
