Your guide to tonight’s City Council meeting

Columbia City Council meets tonight  at 6 p.m. at A.C. Moore Elementary School. Yes, council meetings are normally at 9 a.m. at City Hall. But once a quarter, council will hold an evening meeting out in the community. The location rotates among the four council district. This is a district 3 meeting.

You can read the full agenda here. My summary is below:

1. Columbia City Ballet

  • A few weeks ago the Columbia City Ballet asked City Council for some money so they could travel to Chicago to perform. The only problem was they asked for the money from the city’s economic development fund. Council members denied their request and told them to ask again, but this time from the hospitality tax fund. That’s what they will do tonight.

2. People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals request for appeal

3. Update on 2 Guernsey Drive

  • The Eau Claire Development Corporation purchased the old Burton Heights Elementary School and is now building houses there. During the construction, city work crews did something that caused the basement at 2 Guernsey Drive to flood. Constantly. The person who lives there is not happy about it. City crews have been trying to figure out what they did to cause the flooding and fix it. Assistant City Manager Allison Baker will give an update.

4. Possible donation of real property

  • Harvey J. Rosen wants to donate two parcels of property to the city. Here is property one:

  • And here is property two:

property 2.bmp

  • City Council members will decide what to do.

5. Resolution No. R-2009-079

6. Resolution No. R-2010-001

  • A new housing development is opening, and they need some street names. The new street names are: Springhaven Drive, Barrique Lane, Bordeaux Lane, Chablis Drive, Currant Lane, Glencrot Drive, Lanesborough Drive and my personal favorite Nannyberry Lane.
