Boston College gameday forecast

BOSTON – The ridiculously book-smart college kids here at MIT, where my hotel is located, are sporting some of the lamest Halloween get-ups I’ve ever seen – so much for creativity and thinking outside the box.
I guess some things just defy logic.
Which is why – and I have a hard time believing I’m writing this, [...]

A Tommy Bowden sighting and more

One or two reporters and I were finishing up interviews this afternoon when a familiar SUV pulled up to Clemson’s football offices.
It was Tommy Bowden.
Bowden was dropping off director of football ops Andy Johnston, with whom he’s tradtionally run six miles at lunch time. That habit hasn’t changed.
Bowden stepped on the brake long enough to [...]

BC won’t overlook Clemson (think we’d be writing this?)

During his teleconference with reporters Sunday, Boston College coach Jeff Jagodzinski didn’t want anything to do with a question about whether he thought he’d have to keep his team from overlooking Clemson, which has plummeted from preseason ACC favorite to next-to-last in the Atlantic Division.
Of course, the mere suggestion just shows how fall the mighty [...]

Humphries out for the season

Just when it looked like Clemson’s offensive line was starting to get healthy, another key contributor has gone down.
Barry Humphries, who returned Saturday after a five-game absence for a partially torn anterior cruciate ligament, finished off the tear during Thursday’s practice and will miss the rest of the season.
Humphries began the season as the starting [...]

Swinney calls a practice audible

A day after being installed as Clemson’s interim coach, Dabo Swinney earmarked a surprise for Wednesday’s practice.
The Tigers did not have one.
Swinney surprised team members by loading everyone on buses and taking a field trip to Greenville Children’s Hospital.
“There’s a lot of ways to coach people. You can coach them out on the field … [...]

The new guy doesn’t mind playing two QBs

Couple of quick tidbits from Dabo Swinney’s teleconference Monday:
While senior Cullen Harper has regained the starting quarterback job for Clemson’s next game Nov. 1 at Boston College, Swinney said that is as much a function of Willy Korn’s shoulder injury.
Harper, who underwent surgery on his left, non-throwing shoulder Sunday, returns to practice Tuesday. Swinney said [...]

GT game balls, recap

GAME BALLS
WR Aaron Kelly
So that is what happens when Clemson looks downfield for its primary 6-foot-5 target. Kelly (seven catches, 122 yards) hauled in two touchdown catches to tie the school record for career receiving scores, a mark that stood since 1951.
DT Dorell Scott
After a slow start to his senior season, the 6-3, 320-pounder [...]

Harper expected to practice Tuesday, start vs. BC

The incredibly shrinking recovery time for Cullen Harper’s shoulder surgery bore potentially good news for Clemson on Sunday.
Harper is now slated to return to practice Tuesday after undergoing surgery Sunday morning to have bone fragments removed from his left, non-throwing shoulder.
When Harper first disclosed the surgery last week, he said the timetable for his return [...]

Harper having surgery, Korn just bruised

Cullen Harper says he will follow through with his scheduled surgery Sunday morning, creating the possibility Clemson could have both or neither of its top two quarterbacks available for its next game Nov. 1 at Boston College.
Harper has a 9:30 a.m. appointment today for surgery to clean out bone fragments in the shoulder, which has [...]

Korn injury termed a bruise

Redshirt freshman quarterback Willy Korn suffered a bruised bone in his right throwing shoulder and could be back for Clemson’s next game Nov. 1 at Boston College, a school official said.
Korn underwent an MRI after Saturday’s 21-17 loss to Georgia Tech for the injury, which he suffered at the end of the first quarter.
Still no [...]
