Humphries out for the season

Just when it looked like Clemson’s offensive line was starting to get healthy, another key contributor has gone down.

Barry Humphries, who returned Saturday after a five-game absence for a partially torn anterior cruciate ligament, finished off the tear during Thursday’s practice and will miss the rest of the season.

Humphries began the season as the starting right guard before sustaining the injury. He considered surgery at the time but held off with the hope of playing again this season.

“It’s unfortunate because he worked so hard to get back,” offensive line coach Brad Scott said.

Redshirt freshman guard David Smith (sprained ankle) is expected to return to practice next week, but Scott admittedly has limited interior options against a behemoth Boston College front it can ill afford to lack muscle against.

Humphries was working as the starting left guard when he suffered the injury during a passing drill. He is being replaced by senior Bobby Hutchinson.

One player no longer in the guard mix is junior Cory Lambert, who saw limited action at guard the past two games after previously starting at tackle. Lambert has gone back to tackle so the Tigers have someone to spell both their starters.

I see where Dabo asked students to come to practice…he obviously does not believe we have a chance to win in cold weather Boston College or he would be preparing this team to win…not gimmicks designed to distract from winning. He is a great cheerleader but no coach.

Gil, I agree. While I do admire some of his ‘warm and fuzzy’ healing approach/toughness as perhaps a bit of what this team needed right now, student involvement and chicks at practice are NOT it. While he is a good recruiter and I would like to see him retained in that capacity with the next regime, I don’t think he’s the guy for the permanent head job.

    *shrug*
Pete Carrol has done this for years. As has Saban.
Those guys are geniuses but when Dabo does the same thing its a distraction.

Have you noticed how tight we are?
Football should be played loose and fun.

Until the whistle blows on this season I am 100% behind Dabo (though I am not “all in” I hate that phrase by now) after that Ill make a determination.
