Swinney set as Clemson’s next coach

Dabo Swinney has agreed in principle to become Clemson’s next coach, sources have told The State.
Several details have yet to be finalized, but an announcement could come as early as Monday.
Swinney, 39, was offered the job Sunday afternoon during his planned interview with athletic director Terry Don Phillips. He lead the Tigers to a 4-2 [...]

Champs appears the most likely bowl destination

The initial feeling I’ve gotten from talking to a few bowl and Clemson folks on Saturday evening was that the Tigers’ most likely bowl destination will be the Dec. 27 Champs Sports Bowl in Orlando.
The ACC title game winner (Boston College or Virginia Tech) advances to the BCS Orange Bowl.
The Chick-fil-A gets the first first [...]

USC gameday forecast

No one wants to work on Thanksgiving, myself at the front of that list.
So here is a true, truncated gameday forecast, live from gameday (where the forecast is dank and gloomy, with rain becoming more persistent as the day goes along).
In short, these are two teams whose weaknesses and strengths are pretty well defined, most [...]

TCU’s Patterson probably not Clemson’s guy

Judging by how this search has played out, you get the feel we the media and general public don’t yet know (or have confirmed) the identities of several high-profile coaches whom Clemson AD Terry Don Phillips plans to be in touch with next week.
But I keep hearing from multiple sources that TCU’s Gary Patterson is [...]

Count Calhoun among the confirmed, too

Air Force coach Troy Calhoun has now been confirmed as a bona fide candidate for the Clemson job.
Both Clemson and Tennessee told Air Force AD Hans Mueh last Friday they planned to contact Calhoun, according to a Colorado Springs Gazette report.
Calhoun surfaced as a potential target last week.
For those keeping a running tally at home, [...]

Patterson the latest reported interview

TCU coach Gary Patterson interviewed with Clemson AD Terry Don Phillips on Tuesday for the vacant coaching position, CUTigers.com is reporting.
Have gotten conflicting info on whether any “interview” actually took place, but it certainly would come as no surprise.
The day after Tommy Bowden preemptively resigned, we told you Patterson had expressed interest in the Clemson [...]

Swinney gets his just desserts

Very little actual news from the standard Tuesday press conference with interim coach Dabo Swinney, coaches and players. Mostly Dabo anecdotes.
Perhaps most interestingly, former Alabama coach Gene Stallings will be at Tuesday night’s practice and will speak to the team afterward.
Stallings, obviously, was Swinney’s coach at Alabama – and one of the famed “Junction Boys” [...]

Well, one prospective staff member identified

Interim coach Dabo Swinney has identified at least one guy he’s add to his staff if he gets the full-time job.
It’s the starting center.
Redshirt senior Bobby Hutchinson said Swinney has told him he’d like to bring Hutchinson on as a graduate assistant if Swinney retains the job.
Hutchinson, as you might recall, was serving as a [...]

Sapp out, Korn to have MRI

Junior defensive end Ricky Sapp has suffered a partially torn ACL in his right knee and will miss the rest of the season, interim coach Dabo Swinney confirmed Sunday.
Sapp will undergo surgery in a week or so, Swinney said.
Senior safety Chris Clemons suffered a sprained knee and will be listed as questionable when the injury [...]

Sapp could be done

The news doesn’t sound good for junior defensive end Ricky Sapp.
I’ve been told that Sapp is believed to have torn cartilage in his right knee during the first half. I’m no doctor, but I can’t remember the last time anyone tore cartilage and came back to play the next week.
That could be huge for Clemson’s [...]
