The hoops schedule

South Carolina has yet to release its schedule, thanks to the normal transition issues. Darrin Horn picked up some of the game agreed to by the previous administration, while passing on some of the others. And from there numerous logistical issues arise.
But with a lot of other programs releasing their schedules, we can actually piece [...]

The low-down on Smith's commitment

In an interview, Mullins High School guard Eric Smith said he committed Thursday to South Carolina because of his relationship with coach Darrin Horn.
“I feel real comfortable with coach Horn and his staff. And I can see myself playing for them, playing for him,” Smith said on his drive back home from Columbia. “I think [...]

Eric Smith commits

As expected, Darrin Horn has his second commitment as South Carolina men’s basketball coach, and his first from inside the state. Guard Eric Smith committed today to the Gamecocks, telling Horn he will accept a scholarship to join the team in 2010.

Eric Smith update

A quick update on what’s looking to be Darrin Horn’s second commitment as USC’s men’s basketball coach:

A home-and-home with Wofford

More interesting is this nugget: Wofford said that USC will make a return trip to Spartanburg in 2009-10. Hmm.

The tournament USC won't be in

Before: 4-0, wow, turning a corner.
After: 4-0, yeah, but competition not so good. Still, optimistic on players all around.
It’s been 12 days since the team returned from the trip, but Tuesday [...]

College football kickoff

Just got back from Williams-Brice, where USC’s Jeff Davis was nice enough to provide a tour of some new stadium stuff. We’ll have a story in tomorrow’s paper on all the improvements.

The old/new Spurrier

A lot of coaches like to pretend they don’t “read the papers,” as the term goes. Steve Spurrier never says that. In fact he reacts quite quickly to what he reads.

Letting you speak

A reader named “Concerned Gamecock” – whose e-mail I’ll keep to myself unless he or she says it’s OK – submitted a good post, and I thought I’d present it here.
