Mississippi State …
… Just made Mike Slive a very happy man, and a bunch of bubble teams very, very angry.
The SEC will definitely not be a two-bid league now, as Mississippi State earns the automatic bid by winning the league tournament. Tennessee and LSU will be at-large selections, according to any sane person who’s been paying attention.
The news may be the last nail in the coffin for South Carolina’s hopes. A lot of people thought the SEC would manage to sneak in a third team just for the sake of it, and if MSU didn’t get the automatic one, who knows, it could’ve been USC rather than Auburn, Florida or MSU. Now … hard to see.
The selection show is at 6 p.m. South Carolina has scheduled a media teleconference with coach Darrin Horn for 7:45 p.m. No word on whether the team is watching the selections together.
The NIT field will be announced at 9 p.m. on ESPNU.

We lost 7 games against conference opponents. Had we won just one of those seven, we would likely be going to the ncaa’s. Got to win more games when the SEC is perceived as down.
USC didn’t beat one team in the field of 65. That is a profile that isn’t worth of an AL bid.
Jeff is right, AND we lost three of the last four, all badly.
Hosting Davidson in the NIT seems okay to me, but I’ve only been a fan since 1974 and thus, don’t remember winning a NCAA tourney game.
What a farce.
The SEC East Champions not getting in is a joke.
The Selection Committee has sent a STRONG message to the SEC: the OOC schedules need to be beefed up. The SC State’s, Woffords, Presbyterian, etc. need to be replaced my real competition. Losing to Vandy turned out to be very bad. Losing to Tenn was almost acceptable; but losing to Vandy was a killer.
I’d like to see an analysis of the SEC’s out of conference scheudle (wins . losses) v other’s out of conference schedules. Teams should not be rewarded for merely playing quality teams as it appeared – but for victories which it doesn’t appear. All this data needs to be compiled to compare the teams – as it is now, this RPI and SOS would appear flawed.
To hear others we should schedule say 9 cupcakes and 4 tough teams; annually; that way win or loose it increases our SOS and RPI (sounds dumb but that is what is being stated).
Perhaps they should simply expand the field to 256 teams and play 4 weeks and eliminate conference tournaments.
As it is now is unacceptable.
The SEC should boycott the NIT
Little Joe, the SEC east division regular season champs did get in.
tatersluv, just checked the brackets; your right I see USC on the sheet – apparently we play Mich St. on Friday. Whats’ all this talk about Davidson? Are we playing in both tourney’s?
