Downey on Obama

Devan Downey’s post-Kentucky press conference ended on a joking note.

Someone asked the star of the night whether he was aware that earlier in that day President Obama had said Kentucky “should be all right” after finding out the Wildcats were playing South Carolina. Obama’s words broadcast on a phone a few feet from where Downey was sitting at that moment.

Downey, who in 2008 said he drove home to Chester to vote for Obama, laughed.

“I’m aware of that, but I’m kind of scared to mention something about that because that’s the President,” Downey said. “I don’t want to have nobody knocking on my door in the morning. You know, I don’t got nothin’ to say about Obama.”

Everyone laughed, and the press conference closed. As Downey got up, still smiling, he added: “I’ll get assassinated or something.”

No, I don’t think so. But add this to Obama woe’s in his first-year plus in office.

    Seth,
You, Brett Dawson & Gary Parrish might want to rethink your SEC player of they year pick. You csn hang Downey’s trophy on John’s Wall that you created.

9-29 from the field in not SEC player of the year

i don’t think you heard what the president said. he told Kentucky to “be careful. I know its a tendancy to lose focus once you reach that level. I know its tough place to play so you need to stay focused if you want to win.”

It doesn’t matter what % u shoot from the field if you have 30 points and lead your team to victory over the newly minted #1 team in the country. Case in point….Allen Iverson’s entire career. He is a 4 time NBA scoring champion but has never finished in the top 30 in field goal %…for guards.

Great win for the Gamecocks and as long as Downey keeps it up he will probably battle Cousins (not Wall) for SEC player of the year….and win.
